Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player secured his maiden championship for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a difficult season, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - led to him exiting of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial championship after the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt since that period of 2023.

The win also signifies Medvedev has secured twenty-one victories at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's defensive strategy and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted commentators to wonder if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an improved serve.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial tour victory, took control to push for a final set.

Moutet defended 4 early-game break points in a competitive third set before the Russian won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he earned the title with a shot at the net, with Moutet failing to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
